We had two vital pieces of equipment break at the same time, our hoist AND our tilt table – back in August!

Lions groups from Adur East, Brighton and Lewes clubbed together and generously funded the purchase of these two items. Without the hoist many our members with MS would not be able to take oxygen or have therapies that help them manage their symptoms we need to be able to transfer them from their wheelchairs into a smaller wheelchair or onto a massage plinth. The tilt table is an amazing piece of equipment which allows our most severely disabled members to be brought to vertical, realigning their internal organs and using muscles they otherwise wouldn’t be able to use. Some of our members are completely unable to stand alone so this gives them a real opportunity to experience this when in their physiotherapy sessions with a practitioner.

The funding landscape is shifting and it is becoming more difficult to gain funds from trusts and grant bodies with many other competing causes out there so to get an instant response to an emergency appeal like this was so amazing for us!

Adur East Lions President, Brian Teggart, commented that “The MS Centre provides a much-needed service to the people of our area and more widely in Sussex and we are delighted to be able to support them not only with one-off donations such as this but with a regular annual donation”.
