Group Volunteering at Sussex MS Centre
Sussex MS Centre would not be able to open its doors five days a week (plus some evenings and weekends) without the help of our amazing volunteers!
In 2013 the centre was awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service which is the equivalent of an MBE for volunteer groups.
We work hard to make sure that the MS Centre is a positive and supportive organisation to volunteer with. Volunteering with us is a great way to meet new people; boost your skills; gain new experiences and most importantly it’s a way help the centre and its members.
Volunteering is open to everyone of all abilities; we can shape your volunteer role to suit you and your needs.
We have plenty of people who are members of the centre who volunteer and sometimes their friends, family or carers choose to volunteer as well.
We work with organisations like Adur Voluntary Action and Community Works with whom we advertise volunteer opportunities and we often put posters up at the centre, when we are looking for new people to come and help us.
Here are a few of the volunteer roles which we always need people to help us with at the centre:
- Reception
- Oxygen Chamber Operators
- Social events helpers
- Office admin volunteers
- Fundraising event volunteers
- Collecting boxes distributors and collectors
- Supermarket Collection volunteers
- Gym and class assistants
- DIY & decorating volunteers
- Gardening volunteers
As well as specific roles like those above there are also people who volunteer by way of suggesting an event they’d like to put on to help raise funds. This could be things like running a bric-a brac/jumble sale, plant sale, cake sale or putting on some kind of other event.
Things like this are wonderful for engaging other volunteers, having fun and raising money to support the centre. We ask that you are confident you have the skills, time and energy to lead on any idea such as this as we do not necessarily have the capacity to help a lot. We will of course assist and advise you on any planning.
We ask all new volunteers to come and meet us, to discuss the possible volunteering roles at the centre. We ask that volunteers fill out our application form (assistance will be given if needed) and that volunteers you provide two references.
If you would like to know more about volunteering pop into the centre to speak to EJ or Rebekah or call us on 01273 594484 to have a chat.
