Chair of Trustees

I, like many people I talk to, am only too keen to help in our community but found opportunities hard to navigate. So, when I learned that the Centre needed a volunteer Chair of Trustees, I was excited to help.

MS is not an uncommon condition so, when my wife Karen was diagnosed about 25 years ago, we were surprised not just by how many people are not aware of the condition, but – given how many people it affects – at the limited availability of treatment, information, and medical specialists available. So, for us, finding Sussex MS Centre has been a revelation.

With its core strategies of self-help, putting members at the centre of the conversation, and promoting the sharing of information and mutual support, the Centre is an example to our society of what can be achieved when these strategies are put to use.

Sussex MS Centre has so much going for it. Loved by members and supporters alike, it sits on very firm foundations. With the potential to soon expand and upgrade its facilities, I am pleased to be able to bring both construction and design experience to the Board to help guide the Centre along the path. In fact, with Karen also being a Building Surveyor, it’s a two-for-one deal!

The real aim remains to give all Centre members, and their families and carers, the support they need. And for my role to provide the Centre Manager and team essential leadership, strategic guidance and support of a trusted and honest friend.
