National Energy Action talk Wednesday 4th December
All members and carers welcome.
Come and get advice and hot tips on keeping warm in your homes and decreasing your energy bills this winter. Plus a bit of help on climate change!
NEA work across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and with their sister charity Energy Action Scotland, to ensure that everyone can afford to live in a warm, dry home. In partnership with central and local government, fuel utilities, housing providers, consumer groups and voluntary organisations, they undertake a range of activities to address the causes and treat the symptoms of fuel poverty.
All members welcome, please do pop your name on the list at reception so that we have an idea of how many people may be attending.
Lions come to the rescue!
We had two vital pieces of equipment break at the same time, our hoist AND our tilt table – back in August!
Lions groups from Adur East, Brighton and Lewes clubbed together and generously funded the purchase of these two items. Without the hoist many our members with MS would not be able to take oxygen or have therapies that help them manage their symptoms we need to be able to transfer them from their wheelchairs into a smaller wheelchair or onto a massage plinth. The tilt table is an amazing piece of equipment which allows our most severely disabled members to be brought to vertical, realigning their internal organs and using muscles they otherwise wouldn’t be able to use. Some of our members are completely unable to stand alone so this gives them a real opportunity to experience this when in their physiotherapy sessions with a practitioner.
The funding landscape is shifting and it is becoming more difficult to gain funds from trusts and grant bodies with many other competing causes out there so to get an instant response to an emergency appeal like this was so amazing for us!
Adur East Lions President, Brian Teggart, commented that “The MS Centre provides a much-needed service to the people of our area and more widely in Sussex and we are delighted to be able to support them not only with one-off donations such as this but with a regular annual donation”.

Autumn tidy in the garden
Our volunteer Bev who is a keen gardener has been working hard in the back garden this week which is a complete relief as it was getting rather messy after a glorious summer!
Bev has been preparing our raised veggie bed by taking out all the old tomato and courgette plants and raking over the soil ready for planting for the winter. Theres lots of green tomatoes on offer and some left over baby courgettes on offer in the cafe! She even found some hidden baby carrots! Roll up to our mini veggie market.
It’s a small space so we’ve got a simple plan. We thought red and white onion sets and garlic will be easy and low maintenance. Hopefully it’ll provide a bit of colour and look pretty over the chilly months. We hope to be able to offer these basics to members come harvest time!
Our beautiful raised flower bed is lovely but past its best – we are leaving it for the time being but have been collecting seeds for next year: Calendula (marigold), Nigella and Poppy seeds.

Airnergy Talk with Stephen Logue
Wednesday 6th November at 11am
Are you interested in having oxygen sessions but don’t like being in the chamber or the idea of being in the chamber? This could be the answer for you!
Therapy with the Airnergy device delivers an enhanced level of oxygen which is carried by water molecules in the air. These are inhaled using a cannula for a 20-minute session.
Co-MeD is a company which provides a range of complimentary, alternative medical devices. Co-MeD has very kindly donated the Airnergy device to the centre for a six month trial.
Stephen has a strong interest in complimentary medical devices, hence founding Co-MeD with particular emphasis on therapies which were supported by solid evidence, reflecting his research background.
